10 Major Agers

We all know Dr. Oz by now. He made his debut on Oprah's show informing us of what our poo poo should look like. This no non sense approach to informing the public was a hit! People LOVE him and now he has his own show. I have to say, I really enjoy it. He covers many topics on each show and it really is entertaining. Especially when he tries to dance/exercise at the end, the poor man doesnt have any rhythm. I wouldn't recommend watching it everyday as I think one might get paranoid if you take it all too seriously.

That being said, I watched this episode on 10 major agers as he calls them. Products that aren't great for your body that you might not have known about and are probably in your home. Take a look, you might be surprised.

Last Minute Gifts

Ok...so you waited till the last minute and your car broke down and now you are SCREWED! Well no worries, if you are reading this post then you have the internet, and oh what wonders we can accomplish with it..thanks Al Gore.

Gift Cards are always an option!

At amazon.com you can get an electronic card so nothing is actually mailed, just emailed. That way there is no card to lose! You can print one out as well, or have it mailed! They cover all options!

www.magazines.com
is also great! You can put a print out of the magazine cover in a card and there ya go!

Harry and David have a WONDERFUL Fruit of the Month Club where they ship a different fruit every month to enjoy all year!

You can do it...stop procratinating! You will feel better when its all over and drinking egg nog. OK, not egg nog, I mean who really drinks that stuff?

Good Luck All!

Photos of 2009

Photographers never cease to amaze me. They catch moments in time that can never be recaptured and with such detailed and confusing (if you ask me anyway) machines. Here are some of the American photos of the year from Pop Photo.com

Bruce Feirstein

"The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success."

Bruce Feirstein

This is entirely true! It's funny how hard work and determination are qualities that this society thrives on, however, if you actually practice this you are risking "insanity". That is, unless you make a ton of money doing it :)

Bruce Feirstein (born 1956) is an American screenwriter and humorist, best known for his contributions to the James Bond series and his best-selling humor books, including Real Men Don't Eat Quiche and Nice Guys Sleep Alone.

Project Wedding

Sheila,
this ones for you :)

Love this website and blog for Brides! Especially the real weddings section. It's always nice to see that all of that money may actually create a beautiful day that you will be happy with. There is nothing more frustrating than being a bride to be. So much stress, so much money, so many details, juggling everyones feelings along with your own and trying not to pull your hair out in the mean time. It is true, however, that when that special day comes it's all worth it! My advice...go with your gut, but be sensible. Take people serious when they offer help! Things will go wrong so expect it and laugh at it. Don't forget what this day is all about! Love Love Love and a life long commitment. Bless your union!

British Boy Suspended for "Chip Dealing"

You can't stop the natural talents of a business man, even in middle school. This young chap had been selling chips with a 50% mark up to fellow students even though the school had a recent "junk food ban". This got the poor guy suspended. Really? Is that necessary? Then again...it looks like Daddy wasn't being the best role model...Read the full article HERE

Going Vertical

When you have a one year old Christmas decorating takes on a whole new challenge. Our poor tree only has ornaments on the top 1/3rd. Everything must be safe and out of reach. Well this year I went vertical. I hung large ornaments from door frames and light fixtures. I also created a modern tree sculpture out of an old vase and put it on our tv stand out of reach from little hands. Hang stockings by those plastic temporary M3 hooks that wont pull off and wont ruin your mantle. Don't be afraid to get creative and think out of the box!

Don't Forget About Sparky!

Our pets are part of the family and even they get a little something for Christmas. See Gatsby and Leila here enjoying the holidays. Ok maybe they didn't enjoy the costumes ( but I did). I always make homemade dog treats for them and put the extras in the freezer for a nice little surprise in February.

Fatal Facebook.

It's a fine line you follow when posting of facebook. I have seen way too many things I know I didnt need to that friends have posted. It may be my age, but for me it's a no brainer. Don't post anything illegal, don't post any pictures of you at last years Halloween party in the pornstar dirty nurse costume and generally speaking don't post anything you wouldn't want your Mama to see!

Here is an article about eight other people that have had their lives ruined because of Facebook posts!

Think before you click!!

Thoughtful AND Inexpensive? Sign Me Up!

Pockets are tight this year and that may result in some people becoming a little more creative when it comes to gifts this holiday season. Nothing wrong with that! I think its great, it really gets people thinking outside the box! It might take a few more minutes of your time but thats what makes it so special!

Here is a great article that offers 12 meaningful yet inexpensive options! Click here to link!

Green Cards

How many greeting cards do you think go through USPS every year? About 4 billion! Think about all the trash that creates. It's estimated that each person receives/sends about 20 per year. It's so nice to get them but 99% of them go right into the trash or just clutter up the house. Another GREAT option is electronic cards. There are free ones out there (perfect for a tight budget) or you can pay a few dollars for a super animated one.

This holiday season try:

www.hdgreetings.com

They offer great free ones as well as ones you can purchase. You can attach photos, songs, video, etc. to the ecards and it's simple to use! You can even purchase and attach "amazon gift certificates".

Grandma and great aunt Jane will get a good old fashion paper card from me because they are not computer literate, but cutting down just a little helps mother earth!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Reebok Shoes Give You a Tighter Butt!!

Since moving to Europe I have found that racy advertising is EVERYWHERE here and I am no longer so prudish about it. Looks like Reebok has jumped on the sex sells wagon and is advertising their new shoes for women in a SEXY way. What do you think?

BLACK FRIDAY

image from: iheartfood4thought.wordpress.com

You will NOT catch me out shopping on Black Friday! Mostly because I am in Italy and they do not have such a shopping day. None the less I hate being corralled into these stores sardine style and risk being trampled by some over zealous thrifty! Honestly, is it really worth it? NO. People forget the AMAZING deals you find on the internet. You can be drinking your own coffee (look I just saved you $5.00) and sit on the couch (look I just saved you $20.00 in gas) and put those little fingers to work so you can spend more time with your loved ones (look I just saved your marriage).

Here are some mega deals they are already advertising for...SHOP HAPPY!

www.amazon.com has already started "black friday"

www.macys.com

www.dealcatcher.com
They also have a Iphone APP that keeps you up to date with lots of great deals!

Don't forget to search in your web browser for coupons. Most stores have a 20% off or free shipping coupon out there, you just have to look for it!

Silhouette

My mother in law has s small silhouette of all of her children near her front door. I love looking at them and imagining my husbands little face at seven years old. You rarely see these in the homes of younger generations. However, they are making a comeback and in so many new and wonderful ways. I found this shop on etsy and I am really impressed with her ideas and what she can do! Full figure silhouettes perfect for couples, children playing and the classic "head shot". Your imagination is the limit here. You can put them on cards, ornaments and necklaces. I think you could come up with some great personalized gifts that the whole family would love!

Funny Wedding DON'TS

Weddings, such tension, such fun, such disaster!

Human Kebab for Breakfast?

This article is something I would hope to only see in the movies. Unfortunately, it appears that it really happened. Three homeless men in Moscow were arrested for killing a man, eating some and selling the rest of the body to a kebab restaurant. I know...just swallow it down. Can you imagine? Now some poor unsuspected people in Moscow could be running around with a HUMAN Kebab pita. Reminds me of that movie Fried Green Tomatoes. You know, "Secrets in the sauce". Revenge tastes so good :)

Quick Black Bean App

Here is a unique quick appetizer I stole from my girl friends. It would be great for Mexican night!

Marinate 1 can of drained and rinsed black beans with:
Juice of 2 limes
2 large cloves (or more depending on how much garlic you like) crushed garlic

In a dish (I usually use an 8X8) spread one package of cream cheese.
Mix in a handful of chopped cilantro with the black beans
Pour mixture over the cream cheese
Viola! It's awesome.
Serve with tortilla chips. I like fresh made tortilla chips or the Kettle Chip Lime Chile (green bag).
