Silhouette

My mother in law has s small silhouette of all of her children near her front door. I love looking at them and imagining my husbands little face at seven years old. You rarely see these in the homes of younger generations. However, they are making a comeback and in so many new and wonderful ways. I found this shop on etsy and I am really impressed with her ideas and what she can do! Full figure silhouettes perfect for couples, children playing and the classic "head shot". Your imagination is the limit here. You can put them on cards, ornaments and necklaces. I think you could come up with some great personalized gifts that the whole family would love!

Funny Wedding DON'TS

Weddings, such tension, such fun, such disaster!

Human Kebab for Breakfast?

This article is something I would hope to only see in the movies. Unfortunately, it appears that it really happened. Three homeless men in Moscow were arrested for killing a man, eating some and selling the rest of the body to a kebab restaurant. I know...just swallow it down. Can you imagine? Now some poor unsuspected people in Moscow could be running around with a HUMAN Kebab pita. Reminds me of that movie Fried Green Tomatoes. You know, "Secrets in the sauce". Revenge tastes so good :)

Quick Black Bean App

Here is a unique quick appetizer I stole from my girl friends. It would be great for Mexican night!

Marinate 1 can of drained and rinsed black beans with:
Juice of 2 limes
2 large cloves (or more depending on how much garlic you like) crushed garlic

In a dish (I usually use an 8X8) spread one package of cream cheese.
Mix in a handful of chopped cilantro with the black beans
Pour mixture over the cream cheese
Viola! It's awesome.
Serve with tortilla chips. I like fresh made tortilla chips or the Kettle Chip Lime Chile (green bag).

BubbaLou Bands

If you didn't just say AWWWWW then your heart must be 3x's too small. LOOK at these little head bands! They are beyond adorable! I have not tested the bands out to see if they dig into the little ones heads but geez they are cute. The company will also make them into clips if you prefer and in any cut or color. I love the look of felt and she has a nice variety of flowers to choose from. A perfect gift for the Holiday season! And hey, if your little one won't wear it...you can :)

Drug Company Bribes Dr.

You know this happens all the time but it's a rare occasion when it's brought to the light. I once looked into working as a drug rep but once I found out how these drug companies operate my morals told me NO even though my pocket told me yes. They do a lot of good, but I think most of them have lost the book on ethics. Here is a story about a Dr that over prescribed and botched research results for a little extra pocket money...click here to link to the article.

My advice: Always get second opinions. Don't just take medicine. Find out what it does and it's side effects. Don't just trust Doctors with your life, you are in charge of your own body! It's called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY people! Don't let them take advantage of your ignorance on the subject. Research research and research some more!

Goodness I didn't know I felt so strongly on the subject. Have a great day!

WII Updates

Here is the weekly rundown. For those of you who don't know I am "testing" out the WII game Active Personal Trainer. It has been a lot of fun so far! It does take some getting used to. Like running in place or exercising with two remotes in your hands, it is awkward at first but you get the hang of it quickly. There are how to videos that I am not patient enough to deal with but I definitely recommend watching them before doing the exercises for the first time. Even though you know how to do squats for example the game needs you to point the remote certain ways to register your moves. So save yourself some frustration and watch them at least once.

Pros: I didn't get bored! Except during the running sessions. They put you on a track. If I wanted to run on a track, well, I would. I wish I could choose different views like a tropical forest or Hawaii on the beach, etc.

Really good mix of exercises! You will do plenty of squats and jogging but they also include boxing and basketball to mix it up for you.

It allows you to choose your level of difficulty from easy, medium and hard. This gives you the opportunity to grow with the game and its not too difficult to get started.

Cons: Sometimes it gets caught up and it takes me a few minutes to get it working again (could be user error but I don't think so).

It doesn't weigh you. Wii fit is great because it gives you your weight and bmi every time you get on. This game was made so you can use it with or without the balance board so this function isn't included. I go back and forth between the two games everyday because I really love having the ability to track my weight.

She is a little too optimistic. The trainer constantly encourages you. It's not annoying yet...but I can see that it will be in the future. "You rock" "Keep it up" That kind of jibber jabber.

The resistance band that comes with the game is kind of cheaply made. The handles are really starting to give me a friction burn.

I have started the 30 day challenge at easy and moved to medium this week. I lost drum roll please..........2 lbs. That's pretty good huh? I am happy with it. Even though I'm pretty sure I had three peanut butter cookies last night(ok it was 4). CLICK HERE for the recipe :) Today is a new day!!

So ...I have 13 more lbs to go. I think I am off to a great start.

Babies Having Babies...

My heart aches when I see this. It also reminds me that the United States is truly in a world of it's own. This phenomenon is not "typical" and we try to avoid these situations at much as possible with education and other prevention methods. Unfortunately, in other parts of the world this is common place...this 11 year old found herself having her baby during her wedding...click here to link to the lil sugar article to read more.

My waist size is WHAT????

I am always weary of putting too much of my personal life in the public eye but I have an excuse this time. I am researching and testing a product for my avid readers! My husband and I bought a Wii a few years ago and have enjoyed playing Rock Band and battling each other in tennis and a few other games. I have to admit I am not a "gamer" at all but I have really enjoyed having the Wii here at the house! Especially when friends come over and after a few glasses of wine its fun to see everyone gear up and play rock band. Who doesnt love to see uncle Taylor sing his little heart out? That being said, Wii has come out with a fitness game that comes with a balance board. You stand on it and it measures your weight, bmi and tests your balance capabilities. You make your own little "Mii" they call it and dress them how you want. What I like most about the game is the daily changes in your body that it tracks for you. It also lets you know how close you are or how FARRRR you are from your goal weight. I need that reminder everyday to stay motivated. The "work outs" are not hard. They are small little exercises that are not really pushing you and the cardio is kind of a joke. That being said they came out with ANOTHER game called Personal Trainer.

Its a little more hard core and you can customize your work outs and take a 30 day challenge. Virtual exercise is something that I NEVER thought would happen in my life time. It's either going to really motivate me to lose that extra baby weight ( I call it baby weight but its been there since college so I guess I should say college weight) or I am going to end up eating popcorn on the couch and watching the little virtual girl really kick but like so many other exercise videos I have stashed under my tv. I will try to post at least once a week about my success, failure and my opinion of the game.

15 lbs is the goal....now it's out there...YIKES! I need some motivation...right after I eat this TWIX :)
